As the first English language brand-new entry into the main series since the fantastic Project Zero 3: The Tormented, Maiden of Black Water has a lot to live up to. A mostly-digital-only release (it has a ludicrously expensive physical special edition, but other than that it’s eShop only). So now we have Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water. That received a mixed reception, although I recently played it on a New3DS and was pleasantly surprised at how much I enjoyed it. Alongside that we had Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir, which uses the 3DS as an augmented reality Camera Obscura, allowing you to view ghosts as if they’re in the room with you. This had some bizarre design decisions, involving ‘sexing up’ the two mid-teenage girl protagonists, making for a rather strange experience. Then we had a Wii remake of the second Project Zero game, Crimson Butterfly. We had Mask of the Lunar Eclipse (Wii), which never officially got a release outside of Japan. The last few releases have been a strangely mixed bag.
The graphics look like Blender 3D animation especially by the way each room is lit which very cleverly adds to the creepy-but-realistic environment.After flitting about from console to console for a while, the Project Zero series (Fatal Frame in the US) seems to have found a permanent home with Nintendo. Avoid being taken by ghosts by hiding and using the environment. The developer took the idea and turned it into a game where you may walk around and eventually make your way out of the office. Is it just another Five Nights at Freddy's clone? No it is not. The monologues you hear are the thoughts of the protagonist and the puzzles you solve are all part of helping you understand what is going on. One Late Night is a horror mystery game where you are an unnamed graphic designer who is trying to figure out what is going on in the office. Feel The Cold Embrace Of A Ghost While Alone At Work Meanwhile you have to hide and run for your life as the creepy things try to steal you away. It is your job to piece together the clues and solve the puzzles to finally understand what is going on. Things start out okay but soon you start seeing and hearing very creepy and scary things.
